West Orange High School held a dodgeball tournament for the Principal’s Scholarship Fund in the Tarnoff Gymnasium on May 4th.

The event started at 3:00 pm, as students filed into the stands. Mr. Moore and ISS Supervisor Stephen Zichella hosted and commentated the event. Eleven teams competed in the event which included two teams made up of West Orange Firemen and Policemen, and two other teams consisted solely of teachers.

There were four main rounds of competition before the final round. Both of the teacher teams lost early in the competition while sports teams dominated the competition. WOHS’ boys and girls soccer team, also known as “Andrei Wasn’t Offsides,” competed against the team known as, “Eat their Children,” and claimed their spot in the semi-finals. After beating “The Stenroids,” “The Revengers” were also able to secure a spot in the semi-finals.

“Andrei Wasn’t Offsides” crushed their opponent in the semi-finals, “Gym Class Heroes,” in order to gain entry to the finals. “The Revengers” also had a strong start when they beat the West Orange Fire Dept. Team, “The Bravest” in the semi-finals. However, Mr. Zichella challenged “The Revengers” even more by having them play against the West Orange Police Dept team, “Team Groves” two more times. If they beat “Team Groves” in both of the games, they would earn a berth in the finals; if not, “Team Groves” would take the berth instead.

“Team Groves” faced “Andrei Wasn’t Offsides” in the finals. The teams played best two out of three, and “Andrei Wasn’t Offsides” won the tournament. “Team Groves” didn’t go home empty handed, though. They won the tournament’s “Best Costume” award as they wore t-shirts remembering a fallen member of the W.O.P.D, Officer Timothy Groves.

Congrats to the winning teams!
