WOHS Girls Basketball Season Preview

WEST ORANGE, Nj — The West Orange High School Girls Basketball program is looking to build this season. Last season the girls had a great season, they’re coming off of a SEC title under their belts and went 22-3.

The girls lost seniors Jewell Burnett, Deborah Alabi, and Dawn Flood. With the large freshmen class that came in they have a bunch of new additions, 3 freshmen playing Varsity, two on Junior Varsity and the rest on the Freshmen team.

Returning Sophomore Guard,  Natalie Nevins stated, “Our time is this year, [We] expect to do really well and we have really high hopes for what’s to come for us this season. We have a really strong senior class, junior class, and have some really good freshmen and sophomores that could play a large role in the season this year. Our toughest competition will most likely be Newark Tech and University again this year.”

The girls defeated University by 20 last season, but lost to Newark Tech in the SEC county tournament.

Coach Nevins believed the same,Winning the conference, advancing to the county finals for the first time in school history and making it to the sectional semis was incredible. This year our goals are to maintain that level of success and hopefully bring home more championships. We are trying to build the program to the point that people expect us to be really good every year. We have a lot of girls returning from last years team – and with these experienced and talented players, plus some very good newcomers, we should be very good again”.

The girls have abundant goals for this season and are on the verge of something great. With the assistance of coaches and the fans, their high standards may surely be reached this season and exceeded  for seasons to come.

Good luck to the team this upcoming season.
