The start of the new year begs the question, what movies to look for, especially for comic book and superhero lovers. This year looks to be yet another year of Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe dominating the big screen.

The first superhero movie and one of the most anticipated films in recent years, is “Black Panther,” set to release February 16th. Chadwick Boseman will reprise the role of King T’Challa/Black Panther, following his debut in 2016’s “Captain America: Civil War.” Taking place after T’Challa’s father dies, T’Challa returns to his home country of Wakanda to become the new King. He then has to successfully rule his country and deal with new dangers that threaten it. “Black Panther” should start 2018 right for all superhero lovers.

The third installment of the “Avengers’” movies, and the nineteenth installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is also widely anticipated. “Avengers: Infinity War” is set to release May 4. This is the big one.  The list of actors and actresses featured in this movie is extraordinary.  Everyone from the first two avengers movies is joined by those in “Captain America: Civil War.”  Completing the Marvel Cinematic Universe for “Infinity War:” the Guardians of the Galaxy. The film features super villain Thanos, who wants the power of all six Infinity Stones. He takes his battle to earth and the Marvel heroes must save the day. This movie is expected to be so big, it will have to parts, the second part set to release in 2019.

One of the Marvel movies that may be overlooked this year is “Deadpool 2,” coming out June 1. Ryan Reynolds, the movie’s “Merc with a Mouth,” returns as the audience follows the fourth-wall-breaking mercenary. Most of the same cast returns for this movie, along with Josh Brolin playing Deadpool’s famous companion, Cable. Brolin will also portray the villainous Thanos in “Avengers: Infinity War.”

All of the movies that have been mentioned thus far are Marvel movies, but now it is time for the DC Cinematic Universe. The main film from this world is Aquaman. Jason Momoa returns as Aquaman. This film features Aquaman’s internal struggle to balance life on land and problems of atlantis. It is the second solo film for one of the Justice League members and looks to be one of the better DC movies in recent years.
