Fencing…. Not like the backyard type, the sport. Fencing is a high impact aerobic sport, through participation, one builds up stamina, strength, and coordination. Athletes that take part in this sport can develop skills such as timing, speed and tempo. Fencing benefits the mind by increasing concentration and more focus.

Out of the millions of high school girls, roughly 35% of those that fence will end up on a NCAA team. Fencing also helps a male’s chances of getting into school by a great margin.

ohsThere are three types of fencing; Epee, Saber and Foil. These three weapons are really dependent on body type, and traits. After many proposals to the Board of Education, there is much enthusiasm to start a fencing team at West Orange High School by next winter. There is no coach as of now, but the coach may be outsourced, because no teachers know the sport well enough to coach.
