West Orange Boys Soccer Season Kicks Off

After a disappointing loss in the Essex County Tournament semifinals and the North 1, Group 4 semifinals last season, the Mountaineers are ready for revenge. They were ranked 13th in the state after preseason, making the expectations high for this season.

Along with an experienced coach in Doug Nevins, they also have a strong returning cohort with 20 seniors this season. Some of the leading seniors consist of Wes Rideau Winds and Roodlenscky Charles. They are also bringing in new talent as well. Senior goalkeeper, AJ Petrucci will be back with the Mountaineers this season, after not being eligible to play last season because of academy soccer. Senior forward Brian Merlos, who last season played for St. Benedict’s, will also be joining the Mountaineers. Along with them will come sophomore Kalleo Mendes, last year’s leading goal scorer from Newark East Side.

After the first 3 games, the Mountaineers stand at 2-1. They had a rough first loss to Newark East Side, but are looking dangerous after two good wins against Caldwell and Belleville. More wins are yet to come.
