All of These Moments Left up to Chance

This Chicago Rapper continues to rise to the pinnacle of hip hop.

Two years after the release of his iconic mixtape “Coloring Book”, Chance the Rapper is making moves that will make your jaw drop. The Chicago rapper experienced exponential bounds of success following the release of his Album, “The Big Day.” With over 100 million streams worldwide, “The Big Day” has changed the game, not just for hip hop lovers, but for Chance himself!

Chance’s iconic rap mixtape “Coloring Book,” which debuted during the spring of 2017, became one of the hottest albums of the year. The album won Chance a Grammy for “Best Rap Album” and consequently catapulted him into the thick of mainstream media. While many would see this as a major win on its own, the real reason why it made Chance such an icon was because he managed to win a Grammy without selling any records. Yep, you read that right. Since his intro to the mainstream media back in 2012, Chance has been an independent artist and proudly admitted that he didn’t believe in signing to labels. While many labels took jabs at Chance for denying them a stake in his talents,  many other labels encouraged him to keep going, saying “You’re in uncharted territory and you’re helping to shed light on what [the future of the business] will look like, and we’re all curious.” By sticking to his guts, the Chicago rapper managed to show the world that taking this uncharted route did not put a single dent in his path to success.

Chance’s newest album, “The Big Day.”

Chance’s most recent album “The Big Day” debuted on July 26th, 2019, and was dedicated to Kirsten Corley (Kiersten Bennet) – a Chicago native, child behavioral therapist, and Chance’s wife. The two met when they were only nine years old and had spent the majority of their lives together. The album commemorated their touching love story and celebrated their marriage as well as their beautiful wedding, which took place in March and was shared with the world via social media. With over 104 million streams worldwide, “The Big Day” took the world by storm. Upon the success of his album Chance announced he’d be launching his world tour-“The BIG Tour” on September 24th – but that would soon change with the welcoming of much brighter news. On September 4th, Marli Grace Bennet, Chance’s second daughter, was born, and while he had been extremely prepared for the debut of his tour he made the miraculous decision to become the first ever rapper to ever take paternity leave. The tour was later rescheduled to begin mid-December.

As the buzz from “The Big Day” began to fade, fans were shocked when Chance announced the launch of his newest project – Rhythm & Flow; the very first hip-hop competition series on Netflix. Cardi B and T.I. Harris co-host with Chance on the show as they scour the country searching for the next big thing in hip hop. The show, which debuted on October 9th and released in weekly installments, had audiences raving and by the end fans were begging for a second season. All the while, as he continued working, Chance also made countless bounds to give back to the community. He donated one million dollars to Chicago Public Schools, and dedicated another million dollars to mental health research.

On top of these amazing accomplishments, Chance was asked to return to the famous late night television show, Saturday Night Live, to perform not only as a musical guest, but as a host as well.

“It’s been a dream for me since I was a little kid” Chance explained to Jimmy Fallon. “I have always wanted to do that.”

With so many new things added to his repertoire, Chance the Rapper’s career is at an all time high and fans can’t stop anticipating what he will do next. His success continues to inspire people of all ages, change the music industry, and reshape the face of modern hip hop, and we can only imagine what the future will bring.
