The AB-Salute Boys Step Team at West Orange High School has been impressive this season.

The AB-Salute step team has been working strong to keep their undefeated run since last year. So far, the team has won two New York competitions, and for the fourth year in a row, they have won the Regional Step Competition that was hosted in our auditorium by Youth Step USA. Other than competitions, they do step shows at schools across the state.

Khalil Louigene and Julian Adams are the captains, while Joseph Florendo and William Fullenwider are right below them as co-captains. These four are responsible for leading the team towards their success this season.

Ab-Salute practices twice a week from 2:45 to 5:30. Throughout the practice, the team reviews routines, steps, and strolls. They put all of their hard work and dedication into perfecting their every move.

“It’s just all one big brotherhood, and we get stuff done, but if I’m going to be honest, we spend a lot of time bonding and forming that brotherhood that keeps us going every year. The captains like myself, are in charge of making and teaching every step, making and putting people in every formation, and creating every line that is said within our show and giving roles out,” says Khalil Louigene.

Due to COVID-19, they’ve missed out on opportunities to continue their winning streak but have high hopes that the National Competition will still occur.
