WEST ORANGE, NJ — On Tuesday, Mar. 21 one of the staircases connecting the second and third floors of the Tarnoff Building was closed after the ceiling began to leak. West Orange High School (WOHS) promptly shut down that portion of the staircase until it was fixed on Thursday, Mar. 23. During the two day closure, the Drivers’ Ed program at WOHS made the best of the crowded hallways by having its students participate in a hands-on defensive driving seminars in order to give them a more realistic simulation of traffic in New Jersey.

WOHS junior, Anna Favetta praised the curriculum adjustment. “I think it’s great that our school is seizing this opportunity to help our students. Learning to drive is a daunting process, especially in New Jersey. The Garden State Parkway is more like a parking lot and it’s quicker to hike to your destination than taking the Turnpike. I wish I had the opportunity to participate in this seminar so that I could get more practice checking my blind spot while merging into heavy traffic as well as learning how to handle road closures and the complementary detours.”
