Squadron Strong
On April 7, the AFJROTC underwent an inspection by the Department of Defense. The Mountaineer Squadron was graded “Exceeds Standard” on their inspection, which earned them the top rating possible on the inspection. This also allows the Mountaineer Squadron to be one of the top ROTC units in the country.
The ROTC was inspected by retired USAF Colonel Ben Young, and Cadet Major Danielle Arrabito as well as Cadet Staff Sergeant Ayana Tapper was credited with “Top Performers.” According to the Department of Defense, the ROTC unit needs inspection to evaluate the effectiveness and operation of the unit. It also serves as a basis to grade the unit on the JROTC’s mission for “Developing Citizens of Character Dedicated to Serving their Nation and Community.”
In order for an ROTC unit to earn top rating, the squadrons needed to meet standards in every category of the inspection as well as 2 or less minor discrepancies and exceed standards in three categories. According to Colonel Young, the squadron was “one of the best units I’ve seen.” The Mountaineer squadron was the best in 15 checklist items that ranged from cadet mission briefing to performing a 30 step drill sequence.Two-year cadets were in charge of the 30 step drill performance that impressed Colonel Young.
Congratulations to the ROTC on getting their highest achievement!
