Album Review: More Life by Drake

The anticipation of albums can be dreadful, especially if it is hyped up massively. This perfectly describes Drake’s newest album, More Life. It dropped on March 18th of this year and made a splash with fans from all over. In about a week, about a billion total streams were recorded and mass-hysteria surrounded his newest creation (and for good reason). More Life is the successor to Views and follows an almost opposite style, in a sense. This album contains several tracks that give off a tropical vibe and barely any that are just for the sole purpose of getting hyped, which was Drake’s whole flow up until now. It’s not a subtle shift but Drake does it with such elegance in songs like Madiba Riddim, Passionfruit, and Teenage Fever. While some may find it unbearable, I enjoy this album for multiple reasons. For one, it’s kind of a collection of songs you listen to to relax, and has a special kind of diversity to it. It may not contain a central theme, like Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN., or out-of-this-world lyricism, like J. Cole’s 4 Your Eyez Only, but it is unique. It is worth the listen every now and then and helps escape with its catchy beats and tunes. This is one that was worth the wait.
