Girls Mountaineers Climb to the Top
The West Orange High School (WOHS) Girls’ Soccer Team defeated Montclair Kimberley Academy 4-1 on Tuesday, Oct. 10, to capture the Liberty division championship. Junior, Kaitlyn Charles dialed in 1 assist, while junior, Morgan Clark scored 2 goals. In addition, underclassman, Natalie Nevins managed 3 assists to help win the game. Goalkeeper, Samantha Herbert, also had 2 saves for the mountaineers, ultimately sealing the game win. The girls are set to play Paramus Catholic on Oct. 23, 2017, in state play.
According to NJ.com, the mountaineers are NO.19 in the state. Underclassman, Natalie Nevins believes, “If we continue to play like how we have been playing in the regular season I think we can go really far in states. We all know our role on the team and what we have to do in order for our team to win and if we execute we could be a real challenging team to play further down the line in states.” Nevins also reflected on how she wants the team to be moving forward, “Throughout all of my freshman year and of preseason this year our coaches emphasized and pushed us to strive for top 20 and seeing that dream become a reality shows how far we’ve come as a program. But being ranked is only a step in the process and we are focusing on not letting it keep us from working hard and preparing for states and counties where our lives play can speak for itself (sic).”
Our West Orange Mountaineers girls soccer team has something to prove and will definitely be on the radar in the coming years as long as they continue to work hard, as Nevins put it. According to the WOHS Girls’ Soccer Team, this is only the beginning of something great, perhaps the greatest in West Orange athletic history.
