WOHS Boy’s Basketball Season Preview
WEST ORANGE, Nj — Boys basketball is set to begin on Dec. 9, with their first matchup against Plainfield. To prep for a deep playoff run, the Mountaineers are looking to a new face to lead them to a title: Coach Cowens. This will be his first year as West Orange High School (WOHS) head basketball coach and endures tough responsibilities, ranging from the freshman team to the varsity squad.
Manager and WOHS student, Kahlil Calloway, believes “the varsity team looks stellar and well-composed. Stephon and Kenyon [Sheard] and Goddy and Godly (Marc) are some of the main parts of this talented squad, as well as a few other seniors,” said Calloway when asked about the shape of the varsity players, in terms of their game and what’s to come.
“A lot of people underlook (sic) the JV squad, when really, they are getting up to the level of the next-level athletes at this school. At the scrimmage against Millburn, they played incredible, on-ball pressure defense all of the second quarter. That is a definite improvement and there is no telling what limits they have if they keep working on their craft,” explained the manager when asked to explain how JV was looking to compete this season.
There is a great amount of raw talent on this year’s WOHS basketball roster. Depending on how the games unfold and the chemistry takes over on the hardwood, the sky is practically the limit for basketball this year. Go WO-Town Mountaineers!
