WOHS Wrestling Season Preview
Last season the Mountaineers started their season a little slow but they found their stride as they advanced to the semi final team round of the North Jersey, Section 1, Group 5 state tournament with a 42-36 victory over Hackensack in the quarterfinal round.
But this year Coach Josil stated, “We wanna start this year with a bang!”
Last year the Mountaineers began the season at 1-3, but have won nine out of their last 10 matches and now stand overall at 10-4.
Nunzio Castaldo, a member of the wrestling team stated that people should keep their eye out for “Sebastian Rawls and Noah Tandy, who are the core of our team and our team has gotten stronger and this year our athletes have approved (sic).”
Players to keep an eye on this season will be James Benjamin, who is new transfer student from North Carolina and ranked in the country, also, our returning seniors Sebastian Rawls, Noah Tandy and Thomas Hughes who will be the leaders of our team this year and many of their teammates look up to them and follow by example.
Our former senior leaders will be missed this season like Victor Lopez and Victor Kuga but they still keep contact with players and still give them helpful advice.
As Junior captain Colin Morgan stated, “It’s ring season.”
