WOHS Indoor Track Season Preview

WEST ORANGE, Nj — The winter, indoor track season is quickly approaching, with the team’s first meets being scheduled for Dec. 15 and 16. After the retirement of Coach Pic following the 2017 spring season, the Mountaineer track team will be led by Coach Jackson. Coach Jackson first joined the team last year as a high jump coach, and has an extensive background in both running and coaching at the collegiate level. The team will also see the return of Coach Blake, who works mainly with sprinters, Coach Cheg works with the distance crew and Coach Webb who works with the throwers.

Following the success of last season, junior Armani Smith believes, “This season is gonna be a good one. From the sprinters to the distance runners and even throwers and jumpers like myself, we’ve got a good group of athletes here.”

Smith believes that the momentum from the spring season will carry over to the winter season, and we’ll see even more improvement from seasons past.

“It’s really great that all of the attention isn’t only given to the Varsity runners,” said sophomore Isaiah Bazan, “JV and freshman often get to run their own races and get their own spotlight, which really isn’t seen in a lot of other sports so I’m especially excited.”

The 2017-18 Mountaineer Indoor Track & Field team has loads of talented runners, throwers, jumpers, and coaches this season, and this amount of talent is expected to only propel the team to new heights.
