Meet the Staff: Ela Gonzales
Q: What made you join the journalism program?
A: The topic just looked interesting and I did my schedule last minute [during freshman year] and it was the only thing that was available. I just went with it and then I ended up really liking the [journalism] class, so I decided to take the [newspaper] class my sophomore year, and now I’m here.
Q: Okay, so if you were not in the journalism program in general, where would you be?
A: Well I really liked the fashion class when I took that my sophomore year, so maybe taking more fashion classes, and then who knows maybe I would’ve ended up majoring in something like that, even though I’m not. I really like fashion.
Q: What are some of your favorite movies?
A: I have two that I always go to almost every weekend. I like “La La Land” and “Back to The Future”.
Q: What are some of your favorite hobbies?
A: I watch movies, I like musicals a lot, even though I can’t sing. I shop a lot, it’s kinda a problem. Sometimes I go hiking with my dad, and I like doing my makeup.
Q: Do you have a hidden talent?
A: It’s not a hidden talent, but I always know what time it is without looking at the clock. I don’t know if it counts as a talent, but I used to be really good at that.
Note: Ela was asked what time it was without looking – her response was a minute off.
Q: What types of music do you listen to?
A: I listen to everything I think. Some days I’ll be listening to Adele a lot, and then some days I’m listening to Shawn Mendes. I like all genres honestly, just depends on the song.
Q: What’s your favorite class other than newspaper and why?
A: Yearbook. It depends on who’s in the class with me, and in yearbook I feel like we’re all friends there and we’re all comfortable around each other. I like classes like that where you can work with your friends but also have a good time.
Q: What are your plans after high school?
A: I don’t know what I’m going to major in. I chose English because I like that subject but I don’t know if I’m going to stick with that. But hopefully whatever I end up with I’m happy with.
Q: If you were a celebrity, who would you be and why?
A: Oh that’s a hard question, I love celebrities. Maybe Hailee Steinfeld not just because she’s really pretty, but I feel like she is famous, but not super famous to the point where she can’t go outside. I feel like she’s famous enough to tweet something random and it would get a lot of retweets and I feel like that would be fun to play with.
Q: What is a fun fact about you?
A: English isn’t my first language, so sometimes my words get messed up. It’s interesting because I write a lot now in English and I struggled with English a lot.
