After leading his team to a 2-2 record against some of the best competition in the state, junior running back Shakhi Carson was awarded Athlete of the Month for October. Carson ran for 354 yards and scored 5 touchdowns this month.
Let’s hear from the explosive running back:
Coming into the new season, what are some goals that you hope to achieve?
Coming into a new season (my last), my only goal is to win a State Championship for my school, brothers (teammates), and family.
What is your typical game-day routine? Are you more of the focused type or get hype?
On game day, I am more of the focused type. At the beginning of my day, I like to listen to music that will help me maintain focus throughout the day and as game time gets approaches, I like to listen to more hyped music to prepare for game time!
In the off-season what are you mainly focused on improving?
This off-season I am mainly focused on improving my leadership skills on and off the field. I believe as a captain of the football team I must carry myself in a positive matter so I can be a figure that people can look up to me and feel comfortable with coming to me about anything. As a captain I represent the school and love to portray a positive image.
Who is someone that you look up to and why?
Overall I have two people I look up to: Kobe Bryant and Nipsey Hussle. They have always played a great role in my life as motivational leaders of their community and my goal is to lead WO the same way Nip and Kobe lead Los Angeles; they carried with pride and always were prepared for what was to come. I can’t wait to show you what West Orange 21’ has in store for you.
