Meet the Staff: Jillian Russell
Q: Why did you decide to join newspaper?
A: I decided to join because I took journalism last year and I had an article that was featured in The Pioneer. From there I just really admired writing and decided that I may want to continue the newspaper route for college.
Q: What did you do this summer?
A: Other than quarantining, I did a lot for the drama club. I set up a fundraiser because we lost a lot of opportunities due to Covid so we created merchandise.
Q: What is your role in drama?
A: I am the president of the thespian society and production manager for plays and productions.
Q: What is your favorite part about drama?
A: I love that we’re all a family and it’s a safe space for anyone who wants to join and really just a place where you can be yourself.
Q: Do you participate in any extracurricular activities besides drama?
A: I am also the secretary for the honors music society and am the director of social media for the school store.
Q: So far, what are your favorite and least favorite memories of high school?
A: Favorite- Becoming president of the drama club. It was something that I knew I wanted to but thought couldn’t happen. Being elected by my peers was a great experience.
Least favorite- Having to deal with the crowded hallways walking from class to class.
Q: What are you most excited for this year?
A: Getting ready for college. I am working on sending out my applications and getting acceptances.
Q: What would be your advice for an incoming freshman?
A: I would say to be yourself and not to worry about the pressure of fitting in.
Q: What are your goals after high school?
A: After highschool I would say a goal is obviously to go to college. I also want to find my place in terms of what I want to do and where I end up going. I just want to get ready for life itself.
Q: What do you want to major in at college?
A: I want to go for stage management, but I plan on double majoring. Hopefully I will minor in some sort of journalism or creative writing.
