Fun Facts About Grown Ups

Just recently, I re-watched Grown Ups starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, David Spade, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider, and more. As someone who loves comedy, this was a great movie, and I definitely would recommend it to anyone who wants a good laugh. After watching it, I did some research so you don’t have to. Here are some things you may or may not know about it.

#1: Adam Sandler represented numerous universities

In Grown Ups, actor Adam Sandler can be seen wearing either a different shirt or hat representing a different university in almost every scene. You can see him wearing a UCONN hat, Harvard t-shirt, University of New Hampshire t-shirt, and a University of Rhode Island t-shirt.

#2: Adam Sandler bought a Maserati for his fellow actors

As a thanks for being in his film, Kevin James, David Spade, Chris Rock, and Rob Schneider each received a Maserati from Adam Sandler. The average price of a Maserati is around $75,000, so this was certainly quite the gift.

#3: The beginning basketball scene took 15 hours to film!

At the beginning of Grown Ups, 30 years prior to when the film takes place, the five friends win a CYO Basketball game. This specific scene took not only 15 hours to film, but it was filmed in a gymnasium without air conditioning. Upon filming, it was about 95 degrees outside, and everyone in the scene can be seen wearing short sleeves or polyester.

#4: The pool scene was all improvisation

In an interview after the release of the movie, Adam Sandler shared that the pool scene was all improvised by the actors. While filming, the actors simply acted like themselves, but it’s great because they’re all comedians. They had a great day when filming this scene.

#5: The weather conditions were not all that great when filming

At the time of filming the scenes at the beach house, it was actually extremely cold, despite how it may seem. They actually had to put space heaters around all the actors in between scenes. Every day they filmed, it rained at least once. When editing, they had to CGI (computer-generated imagery) more sunlight to make it appear more of a bright and sunny day than it actually was.

#6: Chris Rock should have won the bet

In the funeral scene, Rob Schneider’s character is singing and moving around with the coach’s picture. Adam Sandler’s and Chris Rock’s character make a $5 bet that Rob Schneider will go down on one knee with the coach’s picture. While Rob Schneider does go down on one knee, he doesn’t do it with the picture. Therefore, Adam Sandler should have given Chris Rock the $5, not the other way around.
