The West Orange High School Sports Media Association encourages eligible student athletes to register to vote and help them achieve their goal of having 100% of eligible student athletes register to vote during High School Voter Registration Week

(West Orange, NJ, April 26, 2022) – The newly-formed West Orange High School Sports Media Association has been busy during their inaugural season. The student-run association was created to highlight the award-winning High School sports athletics programs and connect them to the community through a variety of activities, events, content series, and more.

The association, started by Zachary Perincheril (‘22) & Mason Bashkoff (‘23) is made up of 9th-12th grade students at West Orange High School who share a passion for sports, business, marketing, content creation and a love of their community. Since the beginning of the year, they’ve established one of the most engaging Instagram accounts in the district (@wohssports) posting season previews, student accomplishments, and behind-the-scenes videos from the student-run ‘Media Days’ conceptualized and executed by the association.

Building on their buzz & momentum, the association is testing their influence by launching a new campaign that encourages West Orange High School athletes ages 17 and older to register to vote and help them achieve their goal of having 100% of eligible student athletes register to vote during High School Voter Registration Week which runs April 25-29, 2022.

Members of the association will work with Acting Athletic Director Stephan Zichella, West Orange High School Principal Hayden Moore, Coaches, Teachers, Student Council, and more to spread the word and help achieve this important civic goal.

“Our student athletes are some of the most talented in the state and our new association has done a great job of highlighting their successes in a short period of time,” said Zichella. “How they conduct themselves off the field is often more important than how they do on the field. I couldn’t be more proud of this initiative and look forward to adding this to our long list of accomplishments in West Orange.”

As our students learn in class, democracy is not a spectator sport. It requires continual work to protect it and keep it strong, and the best way to protect and strengthen our democracy is to participate in it. These are the moments that make me the proud principal of this High School,” said Moore.

Eligible student athletes ages 17 and older are encouraged to visit www.woboe.org/vote, register to vote, and encourage their teammates and classmates to do the same.
