On March 22, 2024, the Newspaper class and Club of West Orange High School participated in their first-ever Spring Sports Media Day in the Tarnoff Gym from 3 pm to 6 pm.
The West Orange High School Sports Media Association (WOHSSMA) hosted the event. They had 5 sports including girls’ softball, girls’ lacrosse, boys’ volleyball, baseball, boys’ and girls’ track and field.
During the 3-hour event, the different sports teams got to different stations to get their photos taken and interviewed by the West Orange High School’s very own school newspaper, The Pioneer, in the press conference room.
A couple of student-athletes from each team were chosen for the opportunity to be interviewed in the press conference room which was Tarnoff Lobby. The student-athletes that were chosen were interviewed by student journalists, sports media students, and others. The interview allowed the athletes to speak about their goals and opinions on how their season will go.
When the athletes were at the photo station they got to have their photos taken, with different color backgrounds and different prompts, giving the event fun and excitement of the event.
With the success of the event, we wait in anticipation for the next school year to hopefully be able to do the 2024 Winter Sports Media Day.
