Kanye West, a.k.a. Ye, has been dominant in the music industry for more than 20 years at this point. He is most known for his big projects such as creating his own fashion brand in 2016, and campaigning for president of the United States in 2020.
However, his newest upcoming project is not an album, or a new line of Yeezy clothing, it is a brand new Hebrew school that he calls “Donda Hebrew Academy”, named after his 2022 album, which was also named after his late mother.
West teased the new school back during the most recent Super Bowl. During his own commercial, he was seen laying in a hospital, with many fans wondering what happened to him. But during the ad, he announced a new Yeezy shoe, and teased at another big project coming soon.
Then, about a week later, he announced on Instagram that he plans to open a Hebrew school in downtown Chicago, the location that West is from.
Recently, Ye converted to Judaism back in 2024, and now is trying to display his passion for the religion. In his announcment post/video, he stated “My love for education and religion can truly be pushed forward with this new opportunity.”
“Many people don’t know this, but Chicago has a quiet but large Jewish population, and I want to help them with this new opportunity out of my good will” the Chicago rapper stated. “I feel that with this new academy, then my brand and my talents can truly shine for the next generation of Jewish-Americans”.
West plans to open the school sometime in May 2025, during Jewish-American Heritage Month. He also plans to create merchandise and have a concert at the school to celebrate the inauguration. Additionally, he plans to create all kinds of extracurricular activities for the school, while using jewish values for his vision.
