The year 2015 is remembered in many ways, from the creation of Snapchat filters to Adele releasing “Hello” the year was full of iconic moments. While you could talk for hours about all the memorable moments, one of the most iconic moments from the year is the Broadway debut of the musical Hamilton.
The production, written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, follows the life of founding father Alexander Hamilton. The musical brought a new and exciting feeling to the Broadway stage through its diverse cast and musical styles. The tunes range from R&B, traditional show tunes, fast rap, and hip hop. Pairing that with a cast full of unknown superstars, one of which attended West Orange High School, who used their personalities to connect to the audience through social media and street shows, it was an immediate hit.
Fans everywhere were devastated when the original cast had their last curtain call July 9, 2016, even though the show is still playing at Richard Rogers theatre to this day. However, people everywhere can’t help but wonder, and hope, that the original cast will come back together for the 10 year anniversary of the show.
In an interview earlier this year Arianna Debose, an original ensemble member, confirmed that the cast will be coming back together in some capacity. She explained how she received a text from Miranda telling her to “Be ready” for “something” regarding an anniversary this summer.
More recently, during a film screening of “Satisfied” a documentary about Renee Elise Golsberry, the original Angelica Scheyler in Hamilton, a mini reunion took place. Goldberry herself along with Lin-Manuel Miranda and original cast member Phillipa Soo came out and sang some songs from the musical together at the screening. While this isn’t the full cast reunion fans are hoping for yet, it’s hope.
Along with that, Miranda has been posting many original cast members audition tapes on Instagram paired with the hashtag “Hamilten.” Overall, many fans around the world have high expectations for an event to celebrate one of the most influential musicals in history. Let’s all just hope that the event lives up to its expectations and leaves fans satisfied.
