One Heck Of A Hollywood Mess
From Sante Fe’s brittle deserts to a possible court hearing, has one of Hollywood’s favorites since “Beetle Juice” possibly put an end to his career with the pull of a trigger?
Last month, 42-year-old cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and 48-year-old director Joel Souza fell victim to what appeared to be a firearm fiasco on the set of Rust, actor Alec Baldwin’s new film. Hutchins was killed while Souza was left injured by the supposedly “cold gun” given to Alec by the film director. “Cold gun” is a term used for guns without live rounds. According to the assistant director, the gun had been safe for the set when he handed it to Alec, unaware of the live ammunition inside.
According to Sante Fe District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies, Alec could now possibly face any potential charges after starting on October 26th; no criminal charges were ruled out. “Everything at this point, including criminal charges, is on the table.” Many on social media agree with the attorney’s change in the decision under the trending hashtag #AlecforPrison. One user even thinks he should have been arrested by now. “Why isn’t Alec Baldwin under arrest for his negligence in picking up and firing a loaded gun, resulting in the death of a human?”
Others like Anatoly Androsovych, Halyna Hutchin’s father, argue the set management is more at fault than Baldwin.“But I don’t hold Alec Baldwin responsible- it is the responsibility of the props people who handle the guns,” Androsovych told the UK’s The Sun in an interview.
So what does all this press reveal for the super star’s future in Hollywood? Baldwin’s tarnished reputation and the ongoing investigation may lead him to never act again. The actor reportedly decided to retire due to overwhelming grief and guilt surrounding the situation. Hilaria Baldwin, Alec’s spouse of 9 years, opened up to news outlets about Baldwin’s recent attempts to cope with the disaster, saying, “Alec had a traumatic thing happen, and I am trying to limit the PTSD.” The couple and their family resorted to a trip to Manchester, Vermont.
