With graduation day lurking around the corner, one super-senior, Davis Wigley, is set to graduate after spending eight years at West Orange High School. The Pioneer received an exclusive look into his near decade’s worth of experience.
Wigley’s motivation for staying at the high school — past the typical four years — was his failing of algebra time and again. However, he remains optimistic as he expressed that “eighth times the charm”.
Throughout Wigley’s education, the greatest lesson he has learned was to eat the cookies from the cafeteria after Wednesday, because that’s when they are the “most fresh”.
Outside of academics, Wigley has been involved in the prestigious Crumbl Cookie Review Club. While he doesn’t have a job, “yet”, he is anticipating applying after graduation, noting that his parents emphasized the importance of “focusing on academics” first.
Wigley has become a pillar of the West Orange High School community. In bearing with the school through the good and bad, we questioned if there were any developments he witnessed that stuck out to him. He enthusiastically revealed that the most significant change came when the “walls were painted a completely different color”. I bet no one else could recall such a memorable and unique experience.
Further, over the last eight years, Wigley has seen personal growth. His greatest achievement being that he “got taller”. This revelation came despite the odds as he “never believed” he could accomplish such a feat. This has allowed him to “stand taller” than the freshman he has, and makes his presence known because he “would not have a reputation” otherwise.
What an inspiring story of hardship and triumph. Davis Wigley is truly a testament to what such an intense dedication to your school can offer. He hopes to leave his fellow students with some advice: “Hard work really pays off”.
