Meet Our Sports Editor: Ethan Young

Ethan Young, a 15-year-old sophomore at West Orange High School, and a first-year member of The Pioneer. Due to his busy schedule of baseball and wrestling, Ethan is only a part of the Newspaper club.

He began playing baseball at five years old in a Rec league, and was interested in the sport since he was three years old; playing catch with his dad, and watching baseball games on the TV in awe. By the time he was in second grade, he was wrestling as well. Overall, Ethan enjoys both sports, but for different reasons. Although hee enjoys baseball more and loves playing the game, Ethan loves wrestling because he sees it as a scholarship opportunity. He’s interested in psychology, and would be eager to wrestle at a school with a great program academically and athletically.

Ethan is a mental health advocate  and hopes to one day become a child therapist. About a year ago, he began working at a children’s fitness center, sparking his interest in childcare. He hopes to be a person whom children can confide in, and can influence their life in a positive way.

After experiencing some mental health issues during quarantine, Ethan feels a passion for social service. One of his favorite ways to work on his health is hanging out with friends and taking nature walks.  He also applies his grandfather’s advice, “to live in the moment and not let life pass you by” to his everyday mentality. Ethan’s grandfather is one of his role models because of the profound advice and guidance.

This school year, Ethan hopes to achieve his long-standing goal of making the Honor Roll. After a difficult academic period during quarantine, he hopes to reach this achievement.

Unsurprisingly, his favorite subject is English. Within the writing field, Ethan’s main interest is poetry as it is a way for him to express himself and his emotions. One of the reasons he joined The Pioneer was because wanted to write for emotional freedom and express himself without judgment. Luckily, he came to the right place to do just that. Ethan is a great addition to The Pioneer and is excited to see what the future holds for him within the club.
