WEST ORANGE, NJ- “Over the past two and one-half years, I have had the privilege of serving this community and its children, an honor for which I will always be grateful.” stated Dr. Cascone in his resignation letter to the West Orange School District.

Dr. Cascone was a profound educator who touched the hearts of many teachers, faculty, staff, parents, and students throughout the West Orange School District. 

On July 15, 2019, Dr. Cascone was appointed as the new Superintendent of Schools for the West Orange Schools District.

The second paragraph of his departure letter explains why he is leaving the school district. 

“As I look back at our time together, our lives and world were impacted in unimaginable ways by the COVID-19 pandemic…It is within this difficult, health-impairing situation that I found the commitment of several hours of travel daily to and from West Orange, when added to the time necessary to move the District forward in a positive direction, incompatible with honoring my commitment to my family…I have struggled with this dilemma and only after much conversation and reflection with my family I have decided to seek another professional opportunity that will allow me to confront the same educational challenges that I find engaging while eliminating the travel time impact on my family.” expressed Dr. Cascone.

Dr. Cascone will remain as the Superintendent until April 5, 2022.

The West Orange Board of Education has also communicated their gratitude to Dr. Cascone in a written statement a day after Dr. Cascone’s resignation letter was released, January 6, 2022.

Briefly in the statement, they wish Dr. Cascone the best as he pursues another direction in his career and convey how much he will be missed by the West Orange School District as a whole. 

They continue to explain the two new tasks they need to accomplish. One is hiring an interim Superintendent as they look for a permanent replacement. The second is searching for a new Superintendent as a permanent replacement. 

Many proceed to carry out their love in heartfelt messages to Dr. Cascone on social media, while others express their thoughts on his resignation.
