WOHS Girls Tennis Recap

At West Orange High School, there are a variety of fall sports that work hard during their season. One of these hardworking teams is girls tennis. One of the girls’ season highlights was a big win against Nutley, in the first round of the Essex County Tournament (ECT) early in the season, with a score of 3-2.

The girls also made it to the NJSIAA Tournament First Round in Section 1 Group 4 in which they beat Hackensack 4-1. Co-captains Ariyana Rajani and Emma Grumet led the way for this year’s 2022-2023 team.

This year, four seniors will be graduating on to college: Ariyana Rajani, Emma Grumet, Rio Mamo, and Safiya Scott. The seniors gave some wise words for the high school’s next year’s girls tennis team.

Ariyana
“Continue to show up, do the work, and maintain a positive, winning mindset. And continue supporting one another.”

Emma Grumet
“ I would tell the girls to have no fear. To play the sport and to have fun. They have the two best coaches in the world with Coach Maz and Coach Marini and I am very lucky to have been coached by both of them for 4 amazing seasons.”

Rio Mamo
“I’d tell the girls next year to really focus on their reflexes so they can get to the ball as quickly and as skilled as they can.”

Safiya Scott
“Be confident, have your heads high up and have fun. There’s nothing to be scared of.”

Overall, the seniors are wishing a lot of luck to the next year’s team.

“I wouldn’t say we have one biggest competitor, but we do look forward to one day beating a team like Livingston, and with our lineup for the next few years, I have all the faith in the world that they could accomplish that goal.” said senior co-captain Emma Grumet.
