WOHS Cheer and Football teams dance together for the Fall 2023 Pep Rally to take over the last performance of the night.

As the fall season concludes, the football team notches victories, the Varsity Cheer Team energizes the crowd, and the marching band plays breathtaking music during Friday Night Lights.  This is a stark difference since the beginning of the season when the varsity cheer coaches realized how much of a divide the football players were from the cheerleaders.

The varsity football and cheer team captains decided to come together to create a fun skit at the Annual Fall Pep Rally. The outcome of this was enlightening for our community, revealing that we are all interconnected.

After the occurrence, the Freshman, JV, and varsity teams started to schedule get-togethers, pizza parties, and more with the football players. During Friday Night Lights the cheerleaders were dancing and enjoying the amazing songs while the marching band played by having creative and fun dances to each song.

The marching band supports the cheer team by telling them which song they will be playing so the cheerleaders can be prepared with dances. Then, the cheerleaders tell the drum major what music the crowds would like to hear and see dance to. This incredible bond has turned around the season and has shown our community and upcoming mountaineers what family looks like.

At the last home game, the football team blew out North Bergen. Some football players joined the cheerleaders in dances and cheers. Then when the band started playing a fun beat, the football players and the cheerleaders created a dance circle, dancing and having a blast. This was a great way to end the night, seeing everyone come together after an amazing game.

In the last game of the season, West Orange vs. Union City in the Semi-Finals the cheerleaders and band showed up on a cold night and still came in with a lot of energy. After every good play from the football players, the cheerleaders cheered and ruffled their poms with excitement. Whenever the band finished playing a  song the cheerleaders cheered, demonstrating how much they truly appreciated them. As farewells are extended to the departing seniors, sincere gratitude is expressed for their invaluable contributions. Until Next Year!
