Governor Murphy’s Stance On PARCC

Governor Murphys Stance On PARCC

As our new New Jersey Governor settles into office, many issues concerning child education have risen. Things like budgets and ensuring every child receives a decent education are all things Gov. Murphy is considering improvements for. PARCC testing is one of these education issues Gov. Murphy plans to address.

According to “Phil Murphy Democrat For Governor,” “PARCC tests are considered by many educational experts to be outdated, expensive, and not helpful to students. They have also been criticized by teachers, parents, and school administrators alike for taking away too much classroom instruction time and for forcing curricula to align with test topics to ensure higher scores.”

Phil Murphy intends to eliminate the PARCC test and its use as graduation requirement. Instead Gov. Murphy plans on taking advantage of the new federal Every Student Succeeds Act, which gives states the ability to develop lower-stakes assessments.
