Meet the Co-Editor-In-Chief: Nyah McKinney

Nyah McKinney (she/her), Co-Editor-in-Chief of The Pioneer, embodies the essence of a personable and diligent student-athlete journalist. She is a member of the Junior class as the Class of 2025 president.

Nyah actively participates in various extracurriculars, such as the Unity Club, Black Student Union, WOHS Sports Media program, and the French Club and Honors Society, which exemplifies her commitment to positively impacting her community. Her unwavering dedication to the cheerleading and lacrosse teams not only showcases her passion but also serves as a true source of inspiration for her peers.

Moreover, Nyah is active in retail at a local store in Livingston. Her guiding motto, “Hard work always pays off,” reflects her dedication to her sports career and extracurricular activities.

During Nyag’s moments of respite from her demanding schedule, she indulges in a medley of creative pursuits, such as video and photo editing, journaling, dancing, listening to her favorite band called ‘New Jeans,’ reading dystopian novels, her favorite series being “Shatter Me” and “The Hunger Games,” and immersing herself in the captivating world of reality television.

Currently, Nyah is in the process of planning her future beyond graduation, including a verbal commitment to Howard University to continue her lacrosse career and academics. She’s exploring various options, such as majoring in journalism, sports broadcasting, or sports medicine. While her decision is pending, her path toward success remains crystal clear. Ruby Page (she/her), started with writing short stories as a kid and continues her passion as a writer for The Pioneer. Although she is in the Humanities program at West Orange High School, where she continues to work on her writing skills, she also enjoys the world of science. With her mom being a nurse and having experienced many memorable moments with medical workers in her past, Ruby hopes to pursue a career as a pediatric nurse. Following that path, she is currently enrolled in a medical program at Georgetown. As an altruistic student, Ruby contributes greatly to her community. She is active in various clubs such as Interact Club, Healthy Living Club, and Sports Media. Inspiring youth with her energetic pursuits, Ruby can be found tutoring students at Gregory Elementary for the African Heritage Organization or babysitting around her neighborhood. In her personal life, she has a love for shopping, with Lululemon being her favorite brand of all time. Shopping is also a time when she can spend time with her friends. Also in her free time, she is big on baking, enjoys reading outside, and loves to run. With a generous heart, "Always treat people with kindness, " says Ruby, and believes that "Mental Health Matters," as it is not a topic to take lightly, nor a topic to be stigmatized by society.
