Just Keep Swimming

The girls swim team has been unbeatable this season. At press time, the team’s record currently sits at a sterling 8-0-1, first place in the Super Essex Conference. Marc Navata is one of the team’s two coaches and has helped the girls reach their full potential.

The team practices three or four times each week to get better. Coach Navata requires certain rituals in practice to help them win each meet, including diving, flip turns, relay transitions and speed work.

Coach Navata sets goals for his team, and the girls enjoy rising to the challenge. For example, the team won the County Championships, fulfilling Coach Navata’s aspirations, by narrowly defeating James Caldwell High School, the three-time defending champion. This was West Orange’s first ever county title for girls swimming.

As for the rest of the season, Coach Navata hopes to attain a top-three ranking in the state. At this point, it would be foolish to bet against him and his team. Good luck to the girls!
